Secret Love in the Peach Blossom Land. This is an essential Taiwanese play. Well, make that, this is an essential "China" play as well. It was claimed that watching this play is akin to strolling along Taiwan's history for the past half a century ... We were all big fans of the movie, and not by all means because it starred Lin Hsing Hsia. It was a lovely piece of play within a play, of two contrasting style of theatre form, slugging it out withing the same space. Watching the play in an actual theatre space, especially when the troupe(s) do their scene changes, one can really sense the wonder and magic of transformation of space. How to explain the ability to sob uncontrollably during scenes of Secret Love, yet howl hysterically at the antics of Peach Blossom Land? I was very grateful for the chance to watch this wonderful performance on stage.
