DOA. I watched a chick flick! It was nothing more than skin and game! I survived the ordeal! Actually, on hindsight, I didn't think it was that bad. The difference is that, and I think this is very important, that the film does not take itself too seriously. That said, I was a little annoyed at how the bad guy was defeated ... but then again, I shouldn't be, this is a bad show after all. It won't be so bad until ending up in my worst of list at year end, but it will be hoovering near the bottom ...
Little Shop of Horrors. I wanted to support the show since it stars Hossan and Celine, and it is based on Little Shop of Horrors, which I quite liked the film when it came out. Suffice to say the highlights of the show were the musical moments, my favourites being "Downtown" and the love duet ... Hossan, Celine and Yu Beng were brilliant, the singing was pretty good, the four Audrey II puppets held their own pretty well ... looking forward to the next installation, but wish it was the old dim sum format, more than adapting a hit show ...
Initiation International. This is the second installation of the mini-theatre festival, and the first I am involved and watched. I must say the general quality of the different solo acts were pretty good. What impressed me was Deva Eveland's Welcome Centre, for his manic command centre in a box; Helge Meyer's Burst, for that sheer spontaniety in performance and execution; and Fran Barbe's Fine Bone China, for that interesting portrait of the de-generation of a Victorian lady ... It would had been fun to interact more with the artistes, but alas time was too short ...
