Vivocity. What does it mean to have yet a bigger and bigger and bigger mall in town? Personally, not much. So far, the biggest reasons why I go there, other than hang out with different women ... is the Golden Village cinemas lah. Am glad to say that once you get away from the chaos from the train station to the box office, the foyer seem too peaceful ... as for the actual cinemas, well the extensive leg-spaces are heaven-sent, hence not more bumping into strangers' knees as you try to manuevre to your seat in the dark. But Vivocity itself, geee, everytime I vist the place, it's like the whole of Toa Payoh, or Tampines, or Woodlands, had descended there. Where do all these people come from? Why are they there? Will these fanatics still be around come January? I shudder to think. I guess this will eventually become an important commercial magnet, now that the train system will be extended into Sentosa, St James Power Station will have 9 pubs / discos to content with, and the new IR coming up in Sentosa itself, Harbourfront will be a new hangout place for all people young and old. Scary. Why don't they build a theatre or two there as well?
World Trade Centre. I am talking about the movie. Prior to this film, my last Oliver Stone films were all in the 90s - Nixon, Natural Born Killers, Heaven and Earth, JFK, The Doors, Born on the Fourth Of July. This film, compared to the rest of the film, seems ... boring. As someone told me, the film ended when Nicholas Cage screamed," RUN!" I think the real significance , or departure, of this film, is how non-political it was, despite the obvious temptation to drum up some patriotism and moral support to lift the Americans. The sequence between the four men entering the buildings, and before the imminent collapse, was very well shot, and very thrilling. Once it was left to the two of them buried in the rubble, it was just waiting for the rescue ... Not sure what the director's motive was to make such an understated film, but really wished that his next effort will be more ... gungho. Maybe he could have done An Inconvenient Truth. Heh heh ...
