How to write about THAT controversial film? Having not read the book, (Grace when can I have my book back?) I was able to enjoy the film as it is, without the normal bias that films are often not as good as the original books they adapt from ... The film felt long at parts; I thought they could do with just one inspector, instead of two, got a little draggy and confusing there; as much as I like Tom Hanks and Audrey Tautou a lot, I don't think they were good in this film; I thought Sir Ian Mckellen and Paul Bettany did a much better job with their roles; when will Jean Reno stop don't boring inspector roles?; the scenery was indeed one of the better highlights of the film ... if your expectations are not high then this is a fairly decent summer blockbuster. As Tom Hanks' character said, "if given a chance, would you rather destroy faith, or renew it?" This film is great for an after-film discussion, and no more ... lets just keep this at that.
