Watched two documentaries indirectly about the Beatles. The films fully show the love, passion and adulation that fans worldwide (still) share over these four blokes from Liverpool.
Who Buried Paul McCartney? First it was the rumours, as Paul had not been in the public eye for a while. Then a young man from Michigan wrote an album review, then another one wrote another article in his campus newsletter, and the phone companies had a heyday dealing with phone calls across the world ... It was really enjoyable, pity that at 25 minutes, the documentary was a little too short, felt that some of the stories could had sustained a little longer. And another thing. The way to listen to records, and later cassettes, was to play them backwards. It was very bad for the records, and the player too, so fans had to buy more copies. It was never known whether all these were for real, or perhaps a publicity ploy to sell more records. Great stuff.
The Rubber Soul Project. The last two decades of the last century were tough times for the countries that were / are Yugoslavia, Serbia, Montenegro, etc. Civil War, joblessness, hunger, etc. Rastko came up with the idea of releasing an album of unrecorded Beatles songs. He found the other musicians, and other personnel, who chipped in equipment, expertise, and time. And lots of love and attention. Listening to their music throughout the documentary, we are amazed at how closely they captured the sound, and spirit, of the Beatles. Even the folks in UK were impressed. Maybe I should head down to HMV to see if there are copies of the album there ..
