Watched this wondrous little film called Iqbal, thinks to a recommendation on sgfilm. It was screened in Jade 1 cinema, so no wonder you can't find it on any of the major cinema chains' listings. I was surprised that the cinema has been converted to a little Indian film heaven. They built a mini box office on the left side of the entrance, and on the right of the door, they built in a video rental service.
I haven't watch a commercial Hindi / Tamil film for a while. Sorry, still can't tell the difference between Hindi and Tamil. The last, and I remembered vividly, was Chota Chetan, a supercute children fantasy musical, in 3-D. That was one of my last film in the old Cathay, and we had the red and blue plastic specs to go with it ... fond memories.
Back to the film. This is a very inspiring tale, of how a deaf and dumb boy worked hard to become a national cricket bowler. The film opened my eyes to the world of cricket, the science of it all, and some of the darkness that is associated with a rich and popular sport ... the plot is very simple and straightforward, the cast are all extremely likable, and thank goodness there are no annoying song and dance number to degrade the film. Well, the song and dance numbers are all in the preview films before the screening.
If you cannot find a satisfactory film to catch now, I suggest giving this little nugget a try. You would leave the cinema smiling.
