Michael had been reminding me. I had mass mailed it twice. Last night, I went to watch and support DEADLINE, a film about the death penalty in America, in the Substation. The Singapore Anti-Death Penalty Committee initiated this screening as a small step to create awareness about this aspect of crime and punishment. The screening was pretty well attended, I must say.
The documentary was well-made. It was good that the film-makers actually got into the courtrooms to film the drama that is full of confessions, tears, regret and remorse. Some of the scenes involving families of the victims and aggressors were really really emotionally charged. What we are getting out of the film is that there are no victors in extreme capitol punishment, only more wounds and suffering.
No one has the right to take another person's life, even if that person has wronged others before.
