Adam's Apple - It was always gonna be difficult to ask friends to watch a Sunday 11am show. Hence I braved this odyssey alone, and was duly rewarded. Adam's Apple was an inspirational journey of a neo-Nazi, Adam, who was under the parole of a pastor, Ivan, who has a lot of secrets to hide. The great challenge of the film was to bake an apple cake from the apples of an apple tree growing outside the church. The tree was constantly attacked by crows, worms, and others ... Was it the Devil testing them, or perhaps God himself? The Book of Job was constantly flashed in front of Adam, so I would greatly appreciate if someone can point to me the lessons of this particular story ... The film is wickedly twisted and funny, and does not demean religion in any way. Pity there were only about 50 audience this morning.
Saratan - I always have a soft spot for films about poor villages and countrysides, where the stories are about the mundane quarrels and misunderstandings of simple and hardworking folks. When the villagers of a very poor village have no diesel to motor their tractors to plough their hard soil, they have nothing to do, so all the bickering and catfights, make the mayor and local policeman, very busy indeed. Things have a funny way of wrapping themselves, of course, when the tractor finally starts its engine, it was left with the youngest little girl around, to play with the lonely old guard, since everybody else has gone to the fields to work. At times longwinded and tedious, the film is nevertheless heartwarming, the village folks are simply charming and, get by with life with what little they have, and that, for me, is always beautiful to watch.
