Last night went to support TTRP's (Theatre Training & Research Programme) production of The Secret Souk, at the new Drama Centre's Black Box. The show was overall extremely fun and enjoyable. I have always credited TTRP for their ability to find the right scripts to cater to the cohort's strengths, and this time this script worked very well for the 5 1/2 cast ...
If I had any misforgivings, it was that I thought the show sagged a little once the cast retreated out of the story-telling mode. The acting felt a little more conscious and planned, and there was this nagging sense that they were all waiting for their cues to speak ... hence sometimes there were very small lags during these moments ...
From the technical point of view, hmmm, some of the sound cues sounded a little uneven, either too soft or too loud, that did not fit into the general level set by other cues ...
Still, I would recommend THIS show over the one downstairs ... where the cast really don't act their age ...
