Last Friday, O Level results released. I waited in eager anticipation for my two groups of students to message me to tell me how they fare.
The not so good group - relief that they passed (most) subjects, albeit many 5s and 6s and 7s. Tally - one to go poly, one to go private school, one to go overseas tertiary institution, one to repeat school, one to ... find a job to support his family ...
The better group - stayed in their respective JCs, or move up to a better JC. Of course what, mostly 1s and 2s, 6-pointers or less.
The strange thing is, the ironic thing is, the scary thing is, such different expectations, such indifferent reactions. It's like they already know their paths, their next steps, their places in society. And they are contented to just fit in ...
Should we be concerned?
