They say that Singapore is a very small place. Well, make that together with Johore bahru as well. Leng is one of my oldest ICQ friends. We have chatted for at least five years. Last night she messaged:

Leng - Do you have a friend called Joanne?
Kiat - Which Joanne?
Leng - Joanne Tay

I called her mobile immediately.

Leng - Harlow?
Kiat - Xin Nian Quai Le! Is Joanne your relative?
Leng - You wait ah ...

Joanne - Uncle Kiat!

Well, Singapore and Johore Bahru are very small. I am waiting to see if anyone has relatives in Malacca, as many of my father's side relatives are over there ...


Stayed up late to watch Sound of Colours on channel 62. You know, the movie version of the Jimmy comics. I watched it twice in the cinema. I watched the musical when it came to Esplanade last April or May. I shall not be bothered to discuss the merits of the movie or the musical, whether they were faithful enough to the comics. Suffice to say I think this movie was slightly better than the Turn Left, Turn Right by Takeshi Kaneshiro and Gigi Leung. Although Cheer Chen Qi Zhen makes for a more convincing blind girl than Miriam Yeung.

I actually like the movie, even though I don't even think it is a great movie. Then again, there are very few non-art-house Chinese movies that are great. Anyway, the main reason I like this movie, is that I happen to like all the leads. Yes, all five of them. Which is so so rare, if you think of it. I am a big fan of Tony Leung Chiu Wai. I quite like funny girl Miriam Yeung. I think Fan Zhi Wei will become a strong actor, if he chooses his movies well. Dong Jie is very pretty, but I think there are not many of her films heading here. Remember her in 2046? She was Faye Wong's younger sister there. What a cameo. Zhang Zhen is also another up and coming actor. He was very good in that mini Wong Kar Wai filmlet with Gong Li, The Hand ...

Yea, because of this five, I stayed up after midnight to watch the movie. And you know what? It wasn't even a CNY movie, it was actually a Christmas movie! I think programming should have done better ... ok lah, not a real complaint lah ...
