My last entry was 9th March. Let's see what has been happening since then ...
9th to 12th: Pulau had a good run, I thought. The attendance grew steadily, and we had an almost full-house on Saturday night. Not bad for a performance that had ... very little publicity. The show was not easy to understand and digest, but I guess if one can bring back a little something to ponder at the end of it, then that can't be too bad then ... while I ponder about what to do with the sand and floor boards that we brought back ...
11th: Sideways. Watched with Jacklyn. Wow, what a refreshing movie. Great screenplay, great cast, great chemistry, great scenery, great wine, what else do we need? I am growing to like all these buddy-buddy road-trip movies. Must be me that is mellowing down ... that analogy of wine and life must be one of the best moments of this year's (well, last year) cinema. Once again, we can only sigh and regret that our tiny island is so tiny and void of such wonderous resources of grapes and land and sun and ...
12th: Jan Sardi Lecture. Went alone. Melissa couldn't make it, and Mike couldn't wake up. HMPH! Anyway, he is the dude who wrote SHINE! Yah, that Geoffrey Rush movie. He also "began" the screenplay for last year's THE NOTEBOOK ... wonder what happened to that one ... I am not into screenwriting, but I guessed it would be interesting to hear from a screenwriter what goes into the process of writing a successful screenplay, right? Anyway, the guy is rather anti-Hollywood, so it is rather amusing to see him slugging away the Hollywood way of working ... the auditorium was packed with many industry's film and tv people, whom I do know a few, so at least I did not feel out of place ... ought to catch up with my SHINE again soon ...
13th: Flicker and Trop Fest. Watched with Mandy, Andrew and Monica. I love watching shorts, and Aussie shorts are among the best up there. I watched the last year's Trop Fest's entries, and thus had to watch this year's too ...
Flickerfest: I was late from a meeting, so got in to watch half of the forth short ... Tramstop, a lot a lot of talking. Would have been a bore if not for the two old ladies at the bench ... Slim Pickings. Excellent clay animation. The post-apocalypse setting look very good, and the emotions handled very nicely ... Hey Sista. Felt like a long, hah hah, but a really nice short story about chosing your friends properly, and not being too bothered about having curly hair ... Cracker Bag. Palme D'Or winner. Don't play play. With a girl that reminds of Welcome to the Dollhouse, maybe won because of that cute factor, who knows ... and finally, Harvey Krumpet. The reason why I want to watch this film. Best clay animation since Wallace and Gromit. Excellent characters, and really funny film at heart. A character to laugh and cry at, and to learn lots of interesting fakts with ...
