NYDC will soon be carrying our Chestnuts flyers. Yeah!
Finally got to a watch a French Film Fest film. Been telling people to go watch, but have been putting it off myself. The festival ends this weekend, so, oh well, gotta watch something. Was fortunate to bump into, and have the company of Anand and Hazel ...
Envols is a collection of ... 9 short animations. Some are brilliant; some are crap, naturally. So long as they put @#%^@ next to genius, I don't mind ... Two animations stood out for me:-
- Le moine et le poisson. This is the second time I had watched this delightful piece about just a monk and a fish. After all while you realised that the animation was not as important as the music accompaniment. I am no classical-music listener myself, so if anyone out there can point out the music to me, I'd appreciate it. It seemed the animation was made, was paced, exactly according to the music. Hence it did not necessarily have to make sense in the end ...
- Paroles en l'air. Now this is what I call a simple and touching story. A guy scribbled a nice note on a paper aeroplane, and tried to throw it to a depressed-looking girl, staying opposite him at a few blocks away. The problem was that the plane kept flying into the wrong window ... I think this film earned a warm smile on every audience faces. Nice ...
Am thinking of watching Courses, pousuites et polars (3.30AM!, Sat, Nov 6, Alliance Francaise, M18 rating), but the film is part of a 4-film marathon. They don't seem to sell single session tickets for this one ... At least I can try to watch Contes modernes (2pm, Sun, Nov 7, Alliance Francaise, NC-16 rating) ...
Did anyone catch this new Arts Central comedy called Reno 911 at 9.30pm? I watched for 15 mins and turned the tv off ... still not my type of comedy. Am better off catching Ab Fab, back on Tues at 9.30pm. Yeah!
