I finally watched Before Sunset tonight.
Firstly, let me say that I am pleased that the film is still well attended after ... weeks on the big screen at Cineleisure. It is heartening to know that a small American indie film is doing well on our small shores ...
I watched the film alone. A bit sad, but not too bad lah. I noticed there were quite a few male-male, female-female buddies in the audience. The two ladies on my left enjoyed themselves, I guessed.
Has it been 9 ... 10 years since the first movie? Gosh, I was still uni-ing. I wonder who I watched the first film with? Or maybe I was alone then too ... hmmm ...
It is interesting to watch a movie that, age-wise, is next to, or, shall I say, relevant, to what I am. I guess this is the direct appeal to some of us who catch the current film now. You have to watch the first movie to appreciate this sequel, not because the story continues from the first film, but it does so in real time. Wow ... and the film goes on real time too, double wow ...
I think the appeal of the film also comes from the three main people behind the film, talking about Ethan Hawke, Julie Delpy, and Richard Linklater. All three are not big big names (currently), which I think helps in a film where no one is bigger than the other ...
I thought, or I felt, many people being unhappy with the ending of the film ... which I can fully understand, under normal circumstance ... but I thought the ending was brilliant, which opens to all possibilities ...
Part 3 in a decade's time? After Sunrise, perhaps?
I haven't given anything away, have I?
